Step 10 - Shell Primered
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008:
I got the shell back from the sandblasters. Finally I got to see the actual condition of the shell - no primer, no body filler...

...and the result? Not so great.

Not too surprising actually but not all good news either. A previous owner patched up all minor rust spots except for the a small area in the back seat. But they also de-seamed the car, doing a pretty lousy job of it. Also a number of the panels have more waves than the ocean. It will be less expensive to just replace several panels than to try and repair them.
Here's the shell after primering:

This isn't a good starting point for a 100 point concours car. Thankfully that's not what I want the car for. Considering it will be a trackday/autocross car just for fun, the fact that the chassis is solid and nearly corrosion-free is good. It's going to take some work and a few new panels to get the shell right, but no horrible surprises.
